Foodman defeat Mang Inasal to grab solo lead

FOODMAN got solo possession atop the standings by defeating Mang Inasal 83-75, while Appliance Centrum/LA Gasoline Station derailed Dynamic Metals, 97-94, last Wednesday in Class B action of the 13th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at TTHS Po Hang Gym.

Foodman at 5-1 dropped Mang Inasal to 2nd place at 4-2 tied with ESJ Centre. The top 2 teams will automatically advance to the semifinal round.

Peter Galon led Foodman with 22 points and Ralph Richard Tan finished with 17 points, as the duo combined for 17 points in the payoff quarter to stop Mang INasal.

Mang Inasal led at the half 44-41, as Tubby Villanueva scored 10 points, Shinley Uy 9 points and Mark Binguan 7 points against Arvin Gustilo's 10 points and Richard Tan and Ralph Richard Tan's 7 points apiece for Foodman.

Peter Galon picked up 12 points, pushing Foodman to a 63-62 lead going to the 4th quarter.

Mang Inasal's offense sputtered at the wrong time, as they can score only 13 points in the payoff quarter while Foodman scored 20 points led by Galon and Tan.

Gustilo added 13 points for Foodman, Richard Tan scored 10 points and Andre Tan contributed 7 points.

Shinley Uy paced Mang Inasal with 17 points, Villanueva shot 14 points and Binguan made 10 points.

In the other game, Centrum's upset of Dynamic Metals revived their flickering quarterfinal hopes alive. Centrum is now tied with Dynamic Metals 2-6 ahead of Fox Shox which totes a 1-5 win-loss record.

Centrum's 30-17 cushion in the 1st quarter was enough to hold on to the victory, even as Dynamic Metals outscored them in the next 3 quarters.

Rey Pandoro paced Centrum with 34 points, Peter Paul Ortaliz added 19 points, RJ Iligan picked up 18 points, Luigi Coo shot 14 points and Pao Pao Lim delivered 9 points.

Franklyn Madrid and Julius Teruel shared scoring honors for Dynamic with 20 points each, Jeremy Coo added 17 points with 15 points delivered in the 2nd quarter, Joseph Tiu and Johnnyson Yu chipped in 12 points each and Brian Tan tallied 10 points.

Quarterfinals clash in Class A starts this Saturday with No. 3 CSAB-B Choi Sportswear (5-2) going up against No. 6 UNO-R B (2-5) at 5 pm to be followed by the knockout game between No. 4 Willtrade-Sagay Central (4-3) versus No. 5 Allure DM/Bobcat (3-4).

Semifinals will be on Sunday at 4 p.m. between undefeated No. 1 UNO-R A Davies Phils. (7-0), armed with a twice to beat advantage playing the winner of 4 vs 5. At 5:30 p.m., USLS President's Gym (6-1) will play a knockout game against Winner of 3 vs 6. (Stephen Tan/Contributor)
