Sports commissioner may bring Davis Cup in Bacolod soon-A A +A

PHILIPPINE Sports Commissioner (PSC) Salvador Andrada said that he will be working out to bring the Davis Cup tournament in Bacolod City.
Andrada alongside several PSC staff came all the way from Manila to honor Mayor Monico Puentevella after the turnover at the Bacolod City Government Center.
"Mayor Puentevella is a family in the PSC. He has long been advocating sports programs for Bacolod," the PSC official said. "I think Mayor Puentevella wants to develop sports tourism in the city," he added.
"I have been the president of the Philippine Tennis Association (PhilTA) for a long time. And we have promised him (Monico) that we will be bringing here the Davis Cup tournament if he has built a court of international standard," Andrada said.
"I already asked permission from (Parañaque City) Mayor Edwin Olivares, who is now the PhilTA president, to bring tennis in Bacolod," the PSC official said.
Earlier, Puentevella disclosed that among the priorities of this administration is sports development.
Puentevella's son, Kalaw, who is likewise elected councilor stressed that upon assuming his office, he will immediately look how the city sports program is being managed to determine the things he may do to have the program at par with the required standard.
He, likewise, stressed of his plans on implement programs and work for ordinances which will empower the youth particularly through education, sports, and culture.
"We can empower our youth through sports and culture and can be a stern basis for human development," said the younger Puentevella.
The young legislator added that these activities can cultivate and promote friendship, character building, fair competition, and camaraderie.
He further explained that empowering the youth through sports will entail the cooperation among the stakeholders dedicated to groom future champions on both local and international competitions.
In addition, he further emphasized to push for providing seminars and workshops that center on sports injuries prevention, athlete's nutrition, leadership, and sports psychology.
