USLS Green, Black in ‘D’ League finals-A A +A
Saturday, August 24, 2013
REGARDLESS of who takes the title, University of St. La Salle (USLS) is the sure winner of the Basketball Coaches Association of Negros' (BCAN) Aspirant "D" League final after the 2:30 p.m. game Saturday at West Negros University gym.
Coach Peewee Demonteverde and his Green Stingers, who ousted West Negros University, 75-69 in Wednesday's semifinal, will have to get all the tricks from their bags in order to win over USLS Black.
The Black Stingers beat the Greens, 77-59 in the elimination round and that is one demon Demonteverde is trying to overcome.
USLS Black kicked out St. John's Institute (SJI) off the final race with a 77-73 hard-fought cramps-infested victory in the other crossover semi-final match.
Greenies' Astro Vista who sank 27 points, Andrei Dadivas who hit 15 and Ezeckiel Gatuslao who drained 12 will be Peewee's vital humming bees together with Lawrence Cabalfin, Rafa Tolosa and Reggie Alinsoring.
The Blacks will rely on Nifra-Tecson backcourt duo and a lot of taller, heftier and speedy veterans who deliver at crunch time like they did against the never-say-die Falcons of Hua Ming.
It will be interesting to note that with this final match plus the White Stingers, USLS will be the team to beat in the NOPSSCEA aspirant level. The only downside are the players who will not be included in the select team.
Their only chance is if NOPSSCEA allows guest teams as the aspirant level is not a Palarong Pambansa event.
SJI, meanwhile, remains to be the favorite in the 10 Under and 12 Under category. Both were double champions in the Condura Cup of BCAN last summer.
