Cobra Energy Drink freezes Tanduay Ice-A A +A

RODEL Canino debuted in Fil-Sino with 27 points to backstop Mark Binguan's 42 markers as Cobra Energy Drink paralyzed Tanduay Ice, 107-87 last Monday in the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery, Inc. inter-color tournament at Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
Asahi Super Dry siphoned the sweetness of Absolute Water, 118-104 in the other game.
Cobra overcame a 70-77 third quarter deficit and iced Tanduay 37-10 in the final canto as the Cobra-strong Canino dominated the paint striking 14 points while Jan Jan Young provided 12 markers from the perimeter.
Hitman Binguan scorced the net with 27 points in the opening quarter and Canino added 11 for a 50-39 advantage as Nico Lopingco scored 10 and three others chipped in six each for Tanduay Ice.
Iceman Carlo Chu exploded for 23 points as Tanduay raced past Cobra with Binguan providing solo resistance with 13 as the Energy Drinkers fell behind by seven going to the fourth period.
Cobra got extra help from Young with 19 while Garret Tabanao chipped in 13.
Chu finished with 31 for Tanduay while Nico Lopingco added 16, Joel Masadia scored 12, Richard Uy 11, and Monroe Chua six.
Absolute Water opened the floodgate with a 9-2 surge but Asahi immediately closed the holes anchored on Julius Teruel's 16 points to take a 28-16 opening quarter lead.
Absolute, playing with only five players, was penalized with 10 points at the start of the second quarter and the lead ballooned to 22.
Jessie Moreño fired 17 as Asahi stayed on top at the break, 59-38 even as Ardian Ong and Michael Ang combined for 17 for Absolute.
Bryan Javelosa and Eduardo Ng combined for 18 markers but Asahi brushed aside the uprising extending its lead to 85-61 going to the final quarter.
Super Dry looked formidable with a 34 point lead early in the fourth but Absolute refused to remain stale and outscored Asahi 43-33 with Ng hitting five triples for 17, Michael Ang sinking his own three triples and Ardian Ong scoring nine on putbacks.
Asahi's balanced offensive was the key for the win as seven made double figures with Moreño leading with 25, Teruel 21, Jolly Castillo and Eugene Tsai 14 each, Arvin Gustilo 12, Mark Yu and Andre Tan 10 apiece.
Ng drained eight triples for 32 points, Ardian Ong added 26, Ang shot 21, Keith Banzon has 13 and Javelosa 12.
Games Thursday, Wednesday pit Summit Mineral Water and Creamy Delight Pasteurized Yogurt at 7 p.m. while Colt 45 draws with Tanduay Black at 8:15 p.m. (With report from STan)
