THE long wait is over.
Twelve teams have confirmed participation in the 35-Up Open Inter Office basketball tournament organized by Basketball Coaches Association
of Negros (BCAN) headed by Bobby Tee, former coach of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
Ceneco 1 and Ceneco 2 head the list which include Handyman, Land Bank of the Philippines, Macro, and Merci-Pasalubong.
Joining the first six are Nepan (Negros-Panay), NGC (New Government Center), Province of Negros Occidental, SYL, Teletech and University of St. La Salle Faculty and Staff and Consuelo Supermart.
Tournament format according to Tee is single round robin elimination for two brackets. Top three from each group will move into the quarterfinal, the winners going to the semis and to the championship.
Tentative opening is set September 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Negros Occidental Multi Purpose Activity Center at the Capitol Ground here in Bacolod City.
This league, for some employees and offices, is heaven-sent since there were no tournaments after the Professional Employees Athletic Association (PEAA) and Bacolod City Commercial and Industrial Athletic Association (BCCIAA) disappeared from the sporting scene in mid '90s.
PEAA, which started in 1980, died with its last president, the late Joshua Vidal while BCCIAA lost steam as perpetual head Jingle Selomandin retired from his merchandising work and concentrated in his law studies.
BCAN list of participants' official lineups and schedule of games will be known later, Tee assured parties involved and the sports media.
