SO FAR no one is disputing Bacolod City and Negros Occidental as the “Boxing Capital of the Philippines.”
They should not, as Negrense fighters are set to take center stage in different dates and venues next month.
Bacolod's undefeated champion Genesis ‘Azukal’ Servania of Barangay Pta. Taytay and Bago City's ‘King’ Arthur Villanueva are scheduled to defend their respective belts in Pinoy Pride 22 on October 26 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.
ALA Promotions vice president and general manager Dennis Cañete said that the schedule is final except for the opponents who are still being finalized.
The 22-year-old Servania (22 wins, 8 KOs), currently fighting under ALA gym in Cebu, last defended his WBO Asia Pacific super bantamweight title via a 9th round technical split against Japanese Konosuke Tomiyama at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Casino and Resort in Macau.
The 24-year-old Villanueva, under Top Prime Stable of Rev. Henry Guanzon, won his 23rd straight fight and 13th victory via knockout after dropping Mexican Arturo Badillo in the 4th round during their fight held July 13 at the Solaire Resort Hotel and Casino.
Two Top Prime Stable fighters are also scheduled to see action on the same date in Manila.
The 22-year-old Jerry ‘Dangerous’ Nardo (17 wins, 3 losses, 8KOs) of Escalante City tries to restore his image as one of the country’s top sluggers in the super featherweight division when he faces undefeated Jessie Cris Rosales (12-1 win-draw, 5KOs) of Bohol in an 8-round clash at 126 lbs.
Nardo dropped his last fight via unanimous decision against Australian Corey McConnell for the vacant World Boxing Union super featherweight crown held in Australia.
Louie ‘Kidlat’ Arlos (8-2 win-loss, 2KOs) eyes to avenge his 10-round unanimous decision loss against Vergilio Silvano for the Philippines Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight title. Arlos is scheduled to fight Ivan Soriano (14-1 win-loss, 6KOs) of General Santos City in a 10-round battle at the minimum weight division.
On October 12, rising star and undefeated Juren Labordo of Bacolod City will face Marzon Cabilla of Valencia City, Bukidnon in a 10-round clash at 112 lbs. in the “ALA-Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing” to be staged at the BAYS Center.
