THE national rugby team -- Philippine Volcanoes -- are looking at writing their own story next year at the Panaad Park and Stadium after the Azkals made another history last week.
Co-captain Jake Letts said during a press conference held at Business Inn that they are scheduled to play Japan tentatively in April here as Rizal Memorial Stadium is due for renovation at that time.
Despite being compared with the Azkals, the team said they are happy as both teams are proud in representing the country. “We are happy that the Azkals are very supportive to us,” Letts said.
When asked on how does their relationship with their full-blooded teammates being Fil-foreign players, Gaz Holgate said that they have been playing together as a team. They don’t look into their ancestral history but on how they can give honor to the country.
Dumaguete City-born Harry Morris, on the other hand said, that the team is looking forward to hold some clinics in Bacolod City in the next few weeks to further strengthen public awareness of the sport as well as develop new breed of players from the provinces.
The Volcanoes recently won the Plate Competition of the HSBC Thailand Rugby Sevens held in Pattaya, Thailand beating the host team, 22-14 in the finals.
The Volcanoes were in the City of Smiles to join 2Go in celebration of the 34th MassKara Festival and 75th Charter Day. (HGD)
