Sanyo favored over Syntax in Sharp Cup semis-A A +A
Monday, November 4, 2013
Undefeated Sanyo (6-0) is heavily favored to end Syntax (0-6) when the semifinal of Sharp Cup, organized by Basketball Unified Sports Group, starts Monday at 7 pm at the JGC gym at the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.
Condura (4-2) and number three Panasonic will collide in another SF game on Wednesday at the same time and place.
Both Sanyo and Condura have a twice-to-beat advantage but the latter is in a tight spot despite its 95-76 and 103-101 triumphs in the elimination round. Panasonic is bannered by Bandoy Aliermo, Felipe Tumamot and Rey de Guzman which remains a threat and can turn the table anytime.
Sanyo's 132-112 and 105-100 victories over Syntax is not misleading unless the TV Makers complete its lineup. The Aircon Masters, however, are no pushover with Hermie Derwill, Koko Fuentebella, Garry Garcia averaging double figure scores. Plus bruise brothers Edgar Basco and Matt Rayo at the paint, Sanyo looks formidable.
Condura is still the darkhorse as long as Rex Bayer, Ariel Tornilla, Digol Benedicto remain healthy and back up players Vic Dueñas, Raymundo Sapa and Armando Soberano appear every game.
Tournament commissioner and BUSG adviser Bing Soyao expects a close windup of this year's inter-color designed to lure back in active members. Per its Core Committee meeting last week, another purging is in the offing after the club's Christmas Party and Induction Ceremony slated Dec. 14.
The Huskies, who have not played even one game during the Sharp Cup inter-color, are subject to sanction and will be excluded in BUS Group lineups for external and invitational games. (HGD)
