Slight edge for Area 7 in elementary athletics-A A +A

BACOLOD City representing Area 7 got two golds, two silvers and a bronze in the distaff side while its counterpart has two golds (as of Wednesday) for temporary leadership in elementary athletics of 2013 Provincial Meet at the Panaad Park and Stadium.
Area 4 (Bago, La Carlota, Pulupandan, Valladolid, San Enrique and Pontevedra) tops the boys side with two golds, a silver and two bronzes. Medal haul standing, however, will change after today's final results.
Area 7's Tracy Mercado bested her opponents in 100 m hurdles with 18.86 while teammate Antonette Aguillon outjumped her competitors with 4.21 meters in long jump. Mercado also took the silver in 400 m hurdles in 1:16.85 behind Area 2's Dani Rose Ornopia who clocked in 1:15.74.
Lalaine Egay was the other Area 7 silver medalist as she heaved 23.79 in discus throw after Quessie Brigole of Area 2 threw the disc in 24.40. Brigole's partner Ornopia likewise snatched silver in 100 m hurdles behind Area 7's Mercado making their contest even.
Triple jump became a domain of Area 1 as Meycee Magdangal hit the sand at 9.53 and teammate Windy Rose Argusel landed in 9.28 meters. Area 7's Trexie de la Torre settled for bronze in 9.02.
Shot put ace Angel Grace Lecaniel of Area 4 spun and threw eight meters beating Area 5's Janela de Asis' 7.91 and the 7.22 of Diane Elizabeth Marco of Area 2.
Claire Abellano was a clear winner in 400m run with 1.05.19 to give Area 3 its solo gold. Zaira Mae Villagante of Area 1 and Michelle Flores of Area 5 trailed with 1.08.09 and 1.08.21, respectively.
The boys of Area 4 in John Paul Plomeda (discus throw/23.92) and Mark Joseph Maquirong (110m hurdles/20.57) gifted their district two golds.
Plomeda added silver in shot put in 8.55 after Area 6's John Mark Mangao threw the iron at 9.25. June Philip Martirez also of Area 4 settled for bronze at 8.40.
Samson Sodario completed the medal haul of Area 4 bets after bagging the bronze in 1.04.7 in the 400m run. Lynch Mananquil of Area 7 lynched Sodario and silver medalist Edmark Sta. Ana of Area 5 (1.03.24) with a golden run of 1.00.49.
Area 5 found a twin gold winner in Luke Mailim who dominated long jump in 4.70 and triple jump in 10.38. Roy Benedict Aboy of Area 8 settled for silver in both events with 4.51 and 10.30, respectively. Christian Nino Vidal of Area 8 went home with bronze in long jump while Raul Canagan of Area 6 also with bronze in triple jump.
John Zgus Noveros of Area 7 shone in 400m run with 1.12.14, while Joenel Saide of Area 6 and Elias Sanicaba of Area 1 settled for the next two places.
