Wednesday, December 18, 2013
DEFENDING champion Ceres-La Salle Football Club and Global FC have one day rest before facing each other on Thursday for this year’s PFF-Smart Club Championships finals at the Panaad Park and Stadium.
Home club Ceres FC demolished Benguet FC, 5-1 on Sunday and blanked the same squad 11-0 yesterday.
Global FC of Dan Palami representing Leyte also reigned supreme over Cavite, 4-0 in the other semis on Sunday and followed up with a 5-0 repeat yesterday following the Ceres-Benguel duel.
The local squad, composed of South Korean keeper Hyoun Jaehun and goalie Louie Michael Casas and defenders Geunh Yeong Park and Hyungmin Sim, also from South Korea, Angelo Marasigan, Jason Cordova, Camelo Tacusalme, Anthony Tongson, Jalsor Soriano, Lemuel Unabia, Richard Ruiz Sumabong, Jimmy Malalo-an Jr., John Timothy Bolo and Jose Emmanuel Thomas Diel, are expected to give its "international-flavored" rival a run for its money.
Midfielders Olapido from United Kingdom, Panhay, Hanesin Prince Antony, Carlo Tacusalme, Joel Bedia Jr., Rolando Ian Treyes, Baguioro, Byeong Jun Yoon, midfielder Joshua Beloya, Jaime Poderoso and Jimuel Ariola will be in the thick of the fight against taller, heftier and seasoned booters.
Joining Coach Ali Go in the sideline are assistant coaches Ramon Janeo and Cha Soung Yooung from South Korea, and physical therapist Augustine Rey Rivas. Team manager is Leo Rey Yanson.
On Sunday, Global’s Rufo Sanchez opened the scoring spree in the 31st minute for a 1-nil lead at the break.
Angel Guirado hit the net in the 59th minute and Mark Hartmann added two in the 68th and 70th minutes.
Sanches was superb again as a substitute knocking a header and a left-footed roller in the second half on Thursday to finish off Cavite.
Coach Judy Saluria, a retired Philippine Army booter from Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo and a consistent member of the Philippine Team, could only raise his voice and hands in frustration as his boys were outplayed by a more superior adversary.
Cavite FC's goalie Mark Ian Baldo was tested to the hilt as his goal looked wider with shoots booming left and right.
