Ceres a win away; Global to go all out-A A +A
Saturday, December 21, 2013
TODAY, December 21, is the last day for Global FC to take away the Silver Cup from Ceres-La Salle.
There is no tomorrow for the one who bows as the Philippine Football Federation-Smart National Club Championship ends before the sun goes down today.
For Global FC to spoil the host team's party and Christmas celebration, it has to score more than two points in regulation to offset the aggregate score which now stands at 2-2 on account of Ceres' 2-1 victory on Thursday.
Coach and team manager Dan Palami of Leyte FC and his Azkals-laden Global squad will go all out and try not to duplicate its luckless performance in Leg 1 final.
Palami admitted on Friday that the first half was theirs for the taking, except Ceres-La Salle got all the lucky breaks. Keeper Louie Michael Casas was stunned by Global's lone goal through Angel Guirado from a corner pass but the rest of the attempts were collared and parried at the right time and the right place.
It will be different today depending on Coach Ali Go's strategy whose 3 5-2 formation in the first half on Thursday almost buried Casas with an avalanche of headers and fast rollers.
Ceres changed plan and adjusted in time after Rolando Ian Treyes was inserted in the game leading to Jason Panhay's 45th minute goal off goalie Dely Roland Sadia.
Guirado's equalizing flick in the 54th gave the home crowd something to worry about. Nine minutes later J Baguioro beat his defender in the north goal, eluded a lunging Sadia and scooted home free for an easy shot.
Top scorers as of today are Global FC's Mark Hartmann with 14 goals, Angel Guirado with 10 and Ceres-La Salle's Jalsor Soriano with 10. Final round total of 147 goals have been scored per PFF's stats.
Individual awards at stake are Most Valuable Player, Fair Play, Best Defender, Golden Boot, Golden Glove and Best Midfielder.
