THE goal is to raise future football stars from the grassroots.
This is the Negros First Football League (NFFL) and Dynamic Builders FC’s intention when the Negros First Football League 2014 kicks off January 11 at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
With two successful conferences last year, organizers decided to go a little further forming 12 teams in the Under 13 division and six for the Under 16 category.
Qualified to play for the U13 are those born January 1, 2002 onwards while for the U16 are those born January 1, 1999 and later.
Seeing action for the U13 are the Apolinario Mabini Elementary School, Bata Elementary School, Don Bosco Technical Institute, La Carlota City College, La Consolacion School, and Philippine Normal University.
They will be joined by St. John's Institute, St. Scholastica's Academy, Trinity Christian School, last year’s second runner-up Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, first runner-up University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, and defending champion University of St. La Salle-Integrated School.
Playing for the opening match are teams of ABES and UNO-R at 8 a.m. with the La Consolacion School-PNU tussle at 9:15 a.m. SJI battles SSA at 10:30 a.m.
Competing for U16 division are Don Bosco Technical Institute, Doña Monserrat Lopez National High School, Negros Occidental High School, UNO-R, USLS-IS and Western Visayas Regional Meet-bound Ramon Torres National High School.
Playing their debut match in the tournament are UNO-R and USLS at 8 a.m. Doña Monserrat HS and NOHS at 9:15 a.m. and RTNHS versus DBTI at 10:30 a.m.
Chairman Andrew Infante, commissioners Russel Olado (U13) and Louie Yasay (U16), and AFC referee assessor Dennis Estaniel will direct the tournament bankrolled by Dynamic Football Club of Ricky Yanson. (HGD)
