NegOcc bags awards in Batang Pinoy-A A +A

THE delegates are gone now but they will remember co-host Negros Occidental as home of the Philippines’ best athletes in badminton, futsal and taekwondo after collecting the golds in the just-concluded 2013 Batang Pinoy National Finals.
Susmita Ramos won two golds after capturing the 12 and Under girls singles crown by defeating Bacolod City’s Katrina Togado. She teamed up with Ellana Tan in the 12U girls’ doubles and prevailed over Team Bacolod of Togado and Ysabel Chua.
En route to the finals, the Ramos-Tan tandem outplayed Malolos City’s Anniena Joie Cruz and Mica Bea Supena in the semifinals while Bacolod beat the eventual bronze medalists Leoj Derayunan and Cheska Lomugdang in the other match.
Justin Daniel Anglo settled for silver in the 12 and Under boys singles after losing to Carl Bernard Bejasa of Mandaue City. Bejasa teamed up with James Villarante to bag the 12 and Under doubles against Jeno Carino and Kurt Maghirang of Laguna.
Philippine Juniors’ team standout Eleanor Christine Inlayo was also a double gold medalist after winning the 15 and Under girls singles and 15U doubles with Meagan Cruz. The young national mainstay defeated Irish Macalino of Malolos City in the singles event and repeated over Macalino and Elizabeth Pimentel in the doubles.
Also winning double gold medals is Emilio Mangubat Jr., who dominated the 15 and Under boys singles and doubles events. Mangubat outplayed Glenn Felix Camilio of New Era Quezon City in the singles event and teamed up with Fides Joven Bagasbas to win the doubles.
Negros Occidental also prevailed in futsal as it outscored Tanauan City, 5-3 behind the goals of John Michael Moreno, Philip Joseph Malunes, Louie Gumawa, Michael Malaga and Melchor Taclobos. Krysler Opena scored all three goals for the losing Batangueños.
The Crystal Camille Pauline Reyes-mentored Negros Taekwondo Union Tigers bagged gold medals behind jins Joshua Rosalia, Anton Guinanao, Stephanie Marie Lamayo, Kathleen Dinsay and Julienne Ysabel Bermejo.
