Nofa club championships set in April-A A +A

THE Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa) has set the staging of the 2014 Nofa Club Provincial Championships in April which will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 4th Philippine Football Federation-Smart Club National Championships.
Nofa general-secretary Paulline Javelona revealed this on Sunday over “Aksyon Isports” of dyEZ Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod.
"This provincial tournament will determine which team will represent the football association (FA) in the upcoming national championships,” Javelona said
She admitted, however, that they are facing difficulty with the April schedule as one of the teams committed to participate, Ceres-La Salle FC, is likewise playing in the UFL. C-LS FC will also see action in the President’s Cup on the same month.
“We would like to field the strongest team to represent the province in the national finals. And Ceres-La Salle is the two-time defending champion of this tournament,” she said.
Javelona added that Negros Occidental is also the reigning back-to-back PFF-Suzuki U23 National Cup champion which should have represented the country in the South East Asian Games. The provincial squad had won the national tournament twice, and was also twice denied to wear the national colors.
“We have proven many times that Negros Occidental is the best in the country but, for unknown reasons the federation’s committee have yet to notice it,” Javelona said.
“It’s quite unfair because our local clubs have been working so hard and spending too much to come up with the best and highly-competitive football team. We hope that the efforts of these clubs will be noticed by the people in the federation,” she added. (HGD)
