Lim steers SJI Falcons to 3rd straight victory

DONN Spencer Lim sizzled with 30 points to lead St. John’s Institute (SJI) to its third straight win in the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (Nopsscea) Aspirants Basketball by routing West Negros University (WNU) 72-54 played last Sunday at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activity Center.

The Falcons jumped the gun on WNU in the opening quarter as Lim delivered 10 points for a 20-8 cushion.

Jaycee Adjei picked up seven points for WNU in the second quarter, but Lim had another stellar quarter of 10 points, together with teammate Ian Japzon five points extended the lead to 40-24 at the halftime break.

WNU John Paul Malayas caught fire in the third quarter knocking down three triples en route to finishing with 14 points and cut the deficit to 55-46.

But the rally was short live as the Falcons limited WNU to eight points while scoring 17 points in the payoff quarter.

Backstopping Lim were Japzon with 10 points, Justin Javelosa eight points, Jeruel Tagle with seven points, and seven steals, Sam Solinap six points, Kyle Chua four points, Joshua Magay three points, Kish Suarez and Ralph Chua with two points apiece.

Jaycee Adjei added 13 points for WNU Reuel Palma scored 10 points, Mark Russel Moragas hit six points, Mark Bryan Bandojo made four points, John Serudo hit three points, Bonbrix Balontong and Eliel Dorado with two points apiece.

SJI earlier defeated Trinity Christian School and Tangub Christian Academy. (with reports from Stephen Tan)
