8th Monico Cup line-up submission till March 8-A A +A

SOME 40 teams are joining the 8th Monico Cup Basketball Tournament tentatively set to open on March 30 at the Bays Center in Bacolod City.
The number may or may not be reduced as only 24 were accommodated in the last staging of the tournament when now Mayor Monico Puentevella was still the congressman of Bacolod.
Youth and Sports Coordinator Aurelio Puentevella and tournament official Jack Maranon met with barangay officials and representatives on Saturday to finalize rules and regulations, tournament format, uniforms and other concerns.
Qualified to join are players born in 1993 (no cut off date) who will submit their original birth certificates, parents consent/waiver and 2 x 2 photos for the participating barangay's gallery.
Team is allowed only a maximum of 15 players who will be required to show their voter's ID if needed by the organizing committee to confirm their identity until midnight of March 8.
Unless changed, qualified teams will be divided into four brackets with the top two from each group advancing to the Sweet 8. After a knockout quarterfinal, the survivors will comprise the Top 4.
The champion will then be determined after the semifinal and final rounds under the watch of tournament consultant Joey Puentevella, tournament commissioner Ed Parolena, assistants Dante Usano, Kate de Guzman and Nora Prado.
Teams are required to have a banner and muse during the parade from the Old City Hall, passing by Luzuriaga, Lacson, Rizal, and San Juan Streets en route to Bays Center.
As agreed by attending representatives, three or four small barangays adjacent to each other can merge as one team while incoming, current, ex-varsity players can participate provided they are residents of Bacolod City.
Only one coach will be allowed per team and only officials listed in the gallery can sit on the team bench. Since the number of teams which can join is not yet definite, participants are encouraged to submit their entries early as they will be screened on a first come, first served basis.
Up for grabs aside from the championship trophy is the Most Valuable Player award and selection to the Mythical Five.
