NESTEA Iced Tea and Tanduay Black claimed the championships in the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Inc. Invitational Cup held at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Nestea crawled their way back from a 22-point first quarter deficit to stun No. 1 Absolute Distilled Water 82-79 in Class A while Black outlasted top seed Beer Na Beer 75-69 to capture the Class B title.

Robbie Jalando-on knocked down four treys for 16 points and Kenderson Hao added 10 points for a 28-7 Absolute opening quarter advantage.

Carlo Chu and Arnol Laureño scored 10 and seven points, respectively, as Nestea recovered from their offensive slumber to cut the deficit at the half 40-35.

Laureño and RB Chua combined for 14 points but still fell behind against a balanced Absolute assault going to the fourth quarter, 54-50.

It was a tight contest in the fourth quarter until RB Chua connected three successive cold blooded triple to propel Nestea in front. Chua finished with 15 points in the quarter and teammate Laureño continued to provide the muscle inside with nine points.

Nestea was up by nine points late in the quarter, but they could not put away Absolute due to their free throw misses.

Jalando-on and Ritchie Militante joined hands for a last ditch rally, but Laureño and Gustilo saved the day for Nestea as they nailed their free throws.

Chua and Laureño starred for Nestea with 22 points apiece, Carlo Chu added 13 points, Arvin Gustilo shot nine points, and Jan Jan Lopue made five points.

Jalando-on spearheaded the Absolute offense with 24 points, Carl John Oquindo churned in 13 points, Militante hit 12 points, Hao shot 10 points, Cris Javelosa and Ren Ren Lacson had five points apiece.

In the Class B finals, Livingstone Ang netted 12 shaded area points in the opening quarter for a 20-17 Tanduay Black lead. Richard Uy and Glin Ortaliz combined for 12 points for BNB.

Tanduay Black led by the outside sniping of Nico Yap extended the lead to 35-26 at the break.

Frederick Ong notched 12 points and Tubby Villanueva scored seven points to cut the déficit to 52-50 at the end of the third canto.

Ong continued to carry the BNB offense with eight points with support from Tan and Ortaliz combining for 11 points while black responded with Ryan Alegario and DK Equipaje coming together for 14 points to counter the rally.

But the unsung heroes for Black were Caesar Noble and Daniel Chiu who delivered in crunch time. Noble connected on a triple and Daniel Chiu delivered the last five points for Black to make it a 75-67 lead with less than 30 seconds left in the game.

Alegario finished with 15 points, Ang scored 13 points, Chiu made eight points, Equipaje hit seven points, Noble contributed six points, JP Tan, Nico Yap and Aldrian Tan fired five points each.

Ong scored a game-high 20 points in a losing effort, Ortaliz delivered 15 points, Brian Tan shot nine points, Villanueva hit eight points, and Richard Uy had seven points. (With reports from Stephen Tan)
