140 cagers join first day of tryouts

SOME 140 trainees showed up in the first day of tryouts for the 2014 edition of the Coca Cola Bottlers Inc./Junior PBA Bacolod leg at West Negros University gym on Thursday.

Designed for players aged 13 to 16 years old, the tryouts will be also be held on April 5 and 7 under the watchful eyes of coordinators Jake Azucena and Bobby Tee.

Forty-four players born in 1998; 36, in 1999; 32, for year 2000; and 28, born in 2001 were early birds for the tryout conducted from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The “no tryout, no play” policy worked based on the first day of testing the participants. Entries shall not exceed 10 teams comprising of three players per age bracket but local organizers may add more if more teams want to join.

Deadline for submission of lineup is April 14. The tournament is set April 20 until May 7.

The Bacolod Leg champion, together with the champions from Cebu and Iloilo, will advance to the Visayas Regionals in Iloilo City on May 12 to 15.

The regional champion will go to the National Finals to compete with the titlists from Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, Mindanao and Metro Manila.

Bacolod Leg in-charge is SBP chief for Negros Occidental Anthony Carlo Agustin.
