DESPITE the growing popularity of football and volleyball in the country, basketball continues to be the passion of many Filipinos, including those in Bacolod and Negros Occidental.
Over at Bata on Saturday, Probac meets Bata Selection at 6 p.m. while Pabac challenges Faith Taxi at 7:30 p.m.
Bata Council's Open tournament commissioner Leo Bat-og disclosed that as of today UNO-Recoletos is on top with a 6-0 win loss record followed by Probac with 4-1. Bata is 3-2; Maui Huelar's Barangay 35 and Pabac, locked at 2-2; TBAC, 1-2; VMA Global College, 1-5; and Faith Taxi, still winless in five games.
In Eroreco, Basketball Unified Sports Group will take on Country Homes at 6:30 p.m. The Huskies of BUSG adviser Bing Soyao will see action again on Sunday at the same time against CGM.
At the Bays Center, the 8th Monico Cup 21 Under inter-barangay rages on with Saturday's heavy schedule.
Barangay 29 faces Barangay 7 at 1:30 p.m. followed by Estefania and Barangay 35 at 3 p.m. At 4:30 p.m. Barangays 14 and 22 square off and at 6 p.m. Tangub collides with Barangay 13.
On Sunday, Barangays 2 and 20 meet at 2 p.m. followed by the match-up between Barangays 10 and 39 at 3:30 p.m. Mandalagan tries to contain Barangay 8 at 5 p.m. and last Cup’s finalist Barangay 19 tests Barangay 41 at 6:30 p.m.
A total of 38 teams will be vying for the Magic 12 after a single round robin among six brackets. Only residents of Bacolod City's barangays born 1993 and thereafter are qualified to play. (HGD)
