THE Talk ‘N Text-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) U18 3X3 “Tatluhan” National Championship will be held on May 11 at the West Negros University gym.

SBP Executive Director Renauld “Sonny” Barrios said over Aksyon Isports of DyEZ Aksyon Radyo Bacolod he is inviting young Negrenses to join the Bacolod leg.

The staging of this tournament is part of SBP’s thrust to provide a highly-competitive tournament in the grassroots and to allow aspiring basketball players to display their skills and easily be noticed by scouts from various schools and commercial teams.

The Fiba-endorsed tournament will have 20 legs nationwide and is open to any team of three players, plus an alternate player, aged under 18 years. The regional winners will receive P10,000 plus trophies and medals.

“Aside from these prizes, the top teams in this tournament will get a chance to represent the country to the Fiba 3-on-3 for Asia-Pacific which will be hosted by the Philippines on July 19-20,” Barrios added.

Fiba World is pushing hard the 3-on-3 event, and Fiba Asia, which the Philippines is part of, believes the Philippines should be in the frontline of the event, Barrios said.

Some 32 teams from Bacolod City and Negros Occidental are expected to take the hard court of WNU gym, SBP-Negros Occidental chairman Anthony Carlo Agustin said. (HGD)
