The Filipino boxing champion’s reaction was spontaneous when asked how he takes the possible unification fight against undefeated and reigning WBA light flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez of Nicaragua or WBO/WBA flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico.
ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer was quoted that Nietes eyes big names in the boxing. And who wouldn't?
Nietes finally silenced those who were in doubt of him as a world champion as he knocked out Mexican challenger Moises “Moi” Fuentes in 2:56 minutes in the ninth round of Pinoy Pride 25: The Rematch for Glory at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.
The 31-year-old former ALA Stable utility-turned-top caliber slugger came into the fight with improved lateral movement ran rings around and landed sharp punches on his Mexican rival.
“I really prepared hard for this [fight] and we studied the tape of our initial fight,” Nietes said right after the encounter.
“I never noticed any adjustment from them. He was still using the same strategy he used in our first fight,” he added.
With his latest victory, the Negrense fighter is months close to surpassing the record of Filipino boxing great Gabriel “Flash” Elorde as the longest reigning Filipino world champion.
