Bacolod lauds Philspada medalists-A A +A

THE City Council of Bacolod passed a resolution congratulating Stephen Garzon, Eric Abanco, Dorel Padilla and Enrico Tan for their successful campaign the 3rd Philippine Sports Association for the differently-abled (Philspada) National Games held last May 16 to 24 at the Marikina Sports Complex.
Team Bacolod, headed by Lowell Raner and Arnold Ardosa, bagged four gold, four silver, and two bronze medals.
Authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, the resolution stated that the efforts of the PWD athletes are very remarkable for this made the Bacolodnons proud.
They showed that their disabilities are not hindrances in reaching their dreams, it added.
Their accomplishments gave the city pride and honor, showing that Bacolod is giving full support and equal opportunity to its PWD constituents, the resolution said.
Garzon, a visually impaired athlete, grabbed three gold medals in 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, and 100m freestyle while Abanco, who is orthopedically handicapped, pocketed a gold in chess.
Dorel Padilla, orthopedically handicapped, won four silvers in the single, doubles and other individual events of the wheelchair table tennis and powerlifting.
Tan and Padilla also got bronze medals in powerlifting and shot put.
The Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled-National Paralympic Committee of the Philippines (Philspada-NPC Philippines) is the national sports association for athletes with impairments.
It is tasked to spearhead all activities related to sports and physical fitness of Filipino persons with disabilities, and conduct annual sports competitions among the differently-abled Filipinos. (Carla N. Cañet)
