Philippines U14 girls bow to Thailand in AFC finals-A A +A

THE Philippine Under 14 girls football team bowed to Thailand, 2-1 to settle for a runner-up finish in the Asian Football Confederation Girls Under-14 Championship for Asean region Sunday night at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Arantxa Mari Alvez Trebol of Cebu scored the Philippines’ lone goal.
The young Filipinas survived Myanmar, 2-1 in the semifinals Saturday to earn a finals’ berth against the Thais who denied host Vietnam’s resurgence into the championship, two-nil.
Hnin Mya Thazin scored the opening goal for Myanmar in the ninth minute to take the upper hand, one-nil.
Philippine coach Marnelli Salvador Dimzon was not easily giving up and waited to exult as Cebuana Itsuko Maree Bacatan scored the equalizer in the 14th minute.
The Pinays further strengthened their backline as Bacoleña Chloe Hails entered for Jennifer Baroin in the 28th minute.
Myanmar also aimed to launch one good offensive play before the half sending in Zin Yor Khin for Kallar Soe Theint.
The Filipinas sent in fresher legs as defender Stacey Arthur entered for Hails in the 56th minute while forward Patricia Erika Punongbayan Francisco substituted for Arantxa Mari Alvez Trebol in the 62nd minute.
Four minutes later, Davao’s Joyce Omboy Semacio scored the Philippines’ second goal for the win.
The national side’s first eleven were skipper Tenelyn Espana Otom (San Carlos City FC), keeper Yasmin Elauria (Olongapo City), Tejanee Isulat (San Carlos City FC), Annika Bo Velez (Manila), Glynnes dela Cruz (Romblon), Lindsay Whaley (Subic Bay), and Jan Reese Jumawan (Cebu City).
Others in the Philippine squad were Ilongga Francesca Suerte, Princess Caparida and second choice keeper Alexandrea Gumilao (Zamboanga del Sur). (With reports from HGD)
