THE Philippine Blu Girls is set to fly this month to the United States for its training in preparation for the upcoming 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea set September 19 to October 4.

The Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines-supported clouters include five Negrenses in pitchers Veronica Belleza (Rizal Technological University) and Annalie Benjamin (Adamson University), infielder/outfielder Marlyn Francisco (Rizal Technological University) and Luzviminda Embudo (Adamson University), and outfielder Elma Parohinog (Adamson University).

Asaphil operations manager Jun Veloso, who also heads the delegation, said the Blu Girls need the training because the Pinays always finish only fourth in the past staging of the Asian Softball Championships.

Powerhouse teams from Japan, China, and Chinese Taipei have become a nightmare for the women's softball which ranks eighth. Japan is Number 2 behind United States.

Completing the Blu Girls are Arianne Vallestero (Rizal), Francesca Altomonte (Makati), Isabella Mendoza (Manila), Jullian Tanaka (Caloocan), Alexandra Louise Zuluaga (Mandaluyong), Rizza Bernardino (Laguna), Krisha Piad (Misamis Oriental), Angelie Ursabia (South Cotabato), and Ilonggas Lorna Adorable and Whell Ghene Carmal.

Also joining the squad are US-based batters Californian Alleah Laxamana, Leia Ruiz, Garie Blardo, Dani Gilmore and Gabrielle Rodas, Francesca Foti (Nevada) and Jaexanne Balilea (Hawaii).

The coaching staff is headed by Venerando Dizer and assisted by Ana Maria Santiago, Apolonio Rosales and Ronelon Pagkaliwagan. (HGD)
