BLUE Team under YBAC president Edwin Fregil dominated Bong Ibe’s White, 92-83 to capture the Your Basketball Athletic Club (YBAC) Inter-Color championship at the Talisay City gym.
Nonoy Tan scored 11 points, including a triple, in the opening quarter to anchor Blue to a 22-14 lead as Fregil and John Chua added four points apiece. Mario Reyes and Ibe combined for nine points for White at that stage.
Blue’s Gherson Sipe fired eight points while Eugene Tsai, Rolly Buenaflor and Ritchie Yanson added four points each and Siote Tan nailed a triple for another 22-point mark in the second quarter.
White’s ace playmaker Peewee Demonteverde started to fire up with three treys in the quarter as Kokoy Pendon muscled his way inside and knocked a triple for eight points.
Blue’s lead, however, ballooned at the break, 44-33.
White tried to cut down its 11-point deficit with Pendon and Reyes combining for 15 points but Demonteverde was held to only five points for 27-quarter points.
Nonoy Tan continued to sizzle beyond the arc with three triples as Buenaflor added five points to keep Blue’s 11-point lead at the end of third.
White’s Demonteverde fired 10 points in the payoff period with Reyes adding six and Pendon’s five markers good enough to anchor their team’s 23 points in the quarter.
Meanwhile, Buenaflor led Blue’s balanced-scoring with six points as Sipe and Tsai backstopped with five and four points, respectively.
Blue Team earned the spot in the finals after outscoring Danny Chua’s squad in the semis, 83-72 while White dominated Jun Ballesteros’ side in the other semis match, 96-78. (HGD)
