Sermona vs. McCornell set Aug. 9 in Australia

HIMAMAYLAN City's Ryan “The Crusher” Sermona (16-5 win-loss, 9KOs) will defend hisWorld Boxing Council (WBC) International Super Featherweight belt against Australian and reigning World Boxing Union (WBU) super featherweight titlist Corey McConnell (13-1-1, 1KO) on August 9 at the Crossing Theatre, Narrabri, New South Wales, Australia.

Sermona captured the WBC International Super Featherweight crown last December after dropping Aussie Matt Garlett (11-1) in the fourth round of their title clash at Northbridge in Australia.

"The Crusher" however lost to Japanese Shirgo Eto (12-2-1, 8 KOs) via technical decision in an eight-round clash on April 14 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, McConell aims take down another Filipino fighter after defeating another Negrense and current Philippines Boxing Federation (PBF) super bantamweight champion Jerry “Dangerous” Nardo for the WBU super featherweight title last year at the Southport RSL in Queensland, Australia.

Against Nardo, the 28-year-old Australian bested the Filipino fighter after judges Paul Tapley and Wally Lewis scored 119-109 while Allan Burford had it 120-108. (HGD)
