THE 2014 University Games may be held in Iloilo, president Roger Banzuela said as University of San Agustin (USA) showed interest to host the annual national inter-schools meet this coming October 20 to 28.

“I have talked to USA president Fr. Frederick Comendador and they are very interested. I already sent him the proposal, including the requirements,” Banzuela said.

The change of venue came after Foundation University (FU) of Dumaguete City withdrew their hosting rights in this year’s staging, citing FU’s failure to address the lack of billeting areas and playing venues as well as the non-cooperation of several Dumaguete-based schools.

Meanwhile, anticipating that many of the participating schools might book early flights for the UniGames, Banzuela said he has already communicated with school administrators about the change in venue.

Among the Negros Occidental-based schools participating are the West Negros University, Riverside College, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, VMA Global College and the Central Philippine State University.

Thirteen sports events tentatively scheduled for competitions which include: athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, football, karatedo, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and beach volleyball.
