Nopsscea Season 34 deadline of eligibility papers Aug. 22-A A +A

THE sports committee of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Noppscea) has set the deadline for submission of eligibility documents on August 22.
The games’ 34th edition kicks off September 12.
Under this season’s eligibility guidelines, a collegiate athlete who graduated high school in 2009 will be allowed to play on his seventh year, which covers academic year 2014-2015.
For high school division, a player must be born 1997 or later; high school aspirants from June 16, 1999 or later; elementary players must be born 2002 or later, and elementary 10-under, players must be born January 2, 2004 or later.
The cut-off dates for the elementary and secondary athletes were based on Department of Education Negros Occidental Division Memorandum No. 112 series 2014 which states: elementary pupil athletes must not be more than 13 years old and secondary student athletes must not be more than 18 years old on the 15th of May of the scheduled Palaro as stipulated in Enclosure No.1.
For this school year, the cut-off date for the age of elementary pupil athletes is May 15, 2002 and for secondary student athletes is May 15, 1997.
For the high school aspirants, there will be no limit in the number of qualified third year or Grade 9 athletes while for the 10-under division, it will only limit to Grade 4 and those who have played in the elementary category are disqualified to take part.
A one-year residency is required for a transferee athlete from a non-Nopssscea member-school likewise for a varsity player from a Nopsscea member school. The one-year residency doesn’t apply to non-varsity from Nopsscea member-school except for a certification to be required from his previous school.
Among the requirements to be submitted tomorrow are the following: college – Nopsscea entry form, transcript of records and registrar’s certification (if load is below 15 units). For high school and elementary – Nopsscea entry form, form 137, and photocopy of either NSO birth certificate, passport or baptismal/dedication certificate.
Deadline for compliance of eligibility document deficiencies will be on September 1.
Documents must be submitted to the committee on sports at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Sports Office. (HGD)
