TO INTRODUCE the various park-based sports-for-all program of the Philippine Sports Commission, the City Government of Bacolod will launch the "Laro't Saya sa Parke" on September 7 at the Bacolod plaza.
The undertaking intends to draw the Filipino family into sports. As the basic unit of society, the family is still the best agent for change to develop admirable traits and character, including the full development of an individual, the PSC said.
This event also intends to maximize the full potential of vacant spaces in the community like public plazas and bring the sports more accessible to the people and further raise community awareness of the program.
There are three stages of development the program wish to achieve. First Stage - Fun (sports as a family event), Second Stage - Play and Learn (personal choice for sports engagement), and the Third Stage - Skills Development (sports skill appreciation).
After going through these stages, Focus on Training (early specialization) will follow wherein children seek regular basic training in sports. The Competitive Stage (grassroots level) comes in next where athletic spirit is developed and children start to seek to compete in sports.
High level of Competitive Stage will be the final test where an athlete is born as children are ready to take on greater challenge in sports.
City Sports Coordinator Art Puentevella said 10 sports and recreational events will take place every weekend from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
These are arnis, 3X3 basketball, volleyball, boxing, chess, karate taekwondo, table tennis, gymnastics/mass aerobics and zumba/tai-chi. (HGD)
