200 runners join Negros’ first 42K marathon

A TOTAL of 212 runners from Negros Occidental and Iloilo converged on Sunday, August 20, for the 42 kilometer (K) Negros First Full Marathon from the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City to Manapla town rotunda.

The event is part of the province’s sports tourism program aimed to fortify its image as an emerging sports capital.

Categories included U17 boys and girls, and the men’s and women’s Open featuring 88 runners from Bacolod City, 27 from Bago City, 12 from Salvador Benedicto, 10 each from Silay City, Talisay City, Cadiz City and Murcia, six from Sagay City, four each from Himamaylan City, Victorias City, Escalante City, Pulupandan and Calatrava, three from La Carlota, two from La Castellana, and one from Kabankalan City.

Twelve runners from Iloilo participated.

The top 5 winners of each category received prizes and jerseys in this event supervised by the Provincial Sports Office and bankrolled by the Provincial Government headed by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. alongside Manapla Mayor Lourdes Escalante. (HGD)
