Friday, October 06, 2017

FIDE Master (FM) Nelson Villanueva of La Carlota City will lead the Challengers division in the upcoming 2017 Negros International Open Chess Championship on October 11 to 19 in Bacolod City.

Villanueva ruled the 8th Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng Perak Grand Prix Chess Championship 2017 held in August in Malaysia where his fellow Escalante City-hailed FM Alekhine Nouri and National Master (NM) Stewart Manaog finished second and third places, respectively.

Villanueva also won the 6th AMK CC All Women's and Family Chess Challenge 2017 - Family Men (Open) chess championship last July 30 in Singapore.

Also seeing action are National Masters Leonardo Alidani and Carlito Lavega alongside 60 other top woodpushers in the province. (HGD)
