INTENDED to help young boy and girl basketeers interested to hone their skills and talents, the 1st Jr. NBA Coaching Camp and School Clinic is scheduled to open curtain on January 21 to 23 in Bacolod City.
The event spearheaded by Jr. NBA Bacolod partners Tyron Cu and Roger Montalbo had sent invitations to the LGUs and schools in Bacolod City to send representatives to the coaching camp and basketball clinic.
Organizers had earlier confirmed that Jr. NBA American coach Frank Lopez will be the main resource person during the camp and the clinic to be held at the Audio Visual Center and Msgr. John B. Liu Activities Center of the St. John's Institute.
Bacolod was given the go-signal to host the three-day activity after a group from the Jr. NBA (Asia), headed by Ritchie Lai, made an ocular visit at the SJI venues in December.
The organizers also disclosed that Bacolod is the only city outside of Manila to be chosen as a venue for both activities.
During his visit in Bacolod, Lai met with SJI principal Fr. Emil Ascaño, who assured him of the school's support for the activity.
Aligned with the NBA Cares program, the Jr. NBA officials also visited the Handumanan Sang Hua Ming Gawad Kalinga Village in Bacolod City, where they donated a basketball backboard, with a Jr. NBA logo, to the community.
The Jr. NBA training is for free and will be conducted on January 21. Lopez will conduct the coaching clinic the whole day, with coaching kits to be given to the participants.
On January 22 and 23, skills and drills training will be conducted among boys and girls who are interested in basketball.
Participants may register via email: jr.nba_bcd@yahoo.com.ph or you can contact Tyron Cu at 09173006394 or Stephen Tan at 09188888900 / 09228009888 /4351791. (Jerome S. Galunan Jr.)
