BUSG 40 Up invitational opens Sunday

SIX teams have confirmed participation when the 2nd Conference of the Basketball Unified Sports Group (BUSG) invitational tournament opens Sunday April 21 at Po Hang gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School here.

Sharp-BUSG and Diding's Eatery (ABC) squares off at 11 a.m. while PESO BAYS Athletic Club and Panasonic-BUSG follows at 1 p.m. At 2:30 p.m. NHOJs and NBG (Negros Basketball Group) serves as the finale of the tripleheader.

DEFENDING champion Dynamic Builders FC and runner-up Ceres FC fortified their team standing towards the semifinals on April 28 with victories over separate opponents last Sunday in the 1st Conference of the North Football League at the Ayala North pitch in Talisay City.

THE 2nd Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars set to open April 20 released the lists of official line-ups of different teams on Tuesday, April 16.

Teams with complete line-ups include Pony Basketball, Team Tangub Christian Academy and the St. John’s Institute Baby Falcons for Bracket A. Bracket B are the teams of last year’s runner-up University of St. La Salle Baby Stingers, Bacolod Tay Tung High School Tunderbolts and host-West Negros University Baby Mustangs.

FOODMAN squeaked past Johann Kendrick Tan 96-95 to capture the Class B title of the 13th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup played last Friday at TTHS Po Hang Gym.

Peter Galon engineered the Foodman comeback and scored the last 9 points for Foodman to snatch the championship. The double digit rebounding advantage of Foodman in the 4th quarter was the key to its victory as it gave them more chance offensive opportunities.

A POPULAR joke at schools is that when asked what's your favorite subject, the usual reply is VACANT. At a summer basketball camp, which started last week, trainees are asked the same question. The usual answer is BCAN.

BCAN, which stands for Bacolod Coaches Association of Negros, becomes the battlecry every time a drill instructor blew a long whistle. The kids, aged 3 to 17, immediately respond with a quick crisp basic defensive stance and simultaneously yelling BCAN!

168 campers graduate at BCAN clinic today

SOME 168 youngsters will graduate and receive their certificates when the Basketball Coaches Association of Negros (BCAN) summer clinic ends at St. John's Institute Activity Center today here in Bacolod City.

The neophytes have enjoyed for the last 10 days their BCAN t-shirts and balls and are expected to receive giveaways from BCAN president Bobby Tee and the rest of a dozen coaches who ran the training for kids aged 3 to 17 years old.

2nd Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars tryout starts

HUNDREDS of young hoopers in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City are expected to flock at the West Negros University gym when the two-day tryout for the 2nd Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars Basketball League reels off at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Ten teams will select 12 players to don their respective ball clubs that consist of 13 to 16 years old. Every team will parade three 13-year-olds (born 2000); three 14 year-olds (born 1999); three 15-year-olds (born 1998); and three 16-year-olds (born 1997), as League rules state.

2 Bacolod hoopsters join Jr. NBA national training camp

TWO young Bacolod hoopsters join eight other aspiring basketball stars to represent Mindanao in the 2013 Jr. NBA Philippines National Training Camp in Manila on April 26 to 28.

Jan Gabriel Sobrevega and Jose Antiporda from the University of St. La Salle-Integrated School came out on top along with eight other players who tried out in the Jr. NBA Regional Selection Camp presented by Alaska held at the University of South Eastern Philippines Gym on April 1 and 2.

2013 Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars tryout set April 10-11

In a night of 4th quarter comebacks, Dynamic Metals upset ESJ Centre 79-75 while Appliance Centrum/LA Gasoline Station squeaked past Fox Shox 104-103 in the penultimate day of elimination round of Class B of the 13th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at TTHS Po Hang Gym.

The AFC Challenge Cup qualifications started last March 2 and lasted until March 6, 2013. Three slots were booked by the respective group winners in Myanmar, Afghanistan and Palestine. They now join host Maldives in the AFC Challenge Cup Finals next year while the four remaining spots are still up for grabs.

The two best runner-ups in the competition so far belong to India and Bangladesh which have 6 points each (2 wins, 0 draw, 1 loss record). A victory earns the team three full points and a draw is good for one point.

JKT had a 3-point lead until La Filipina Jan Jan Young managed to score on an offensive putback plus a foul with no time remaining. But lady luck smiled on JKT as Young missed the free throw.

UNO-R A Davies subdue USLS President’s Gym

IN A battle of unbeaten teams, UNO-R A Davies Philippines survived USLS President’s Gym 63-60 and Allure DM/Bobcat overpowered UNO-R-B 101-88 in Class A action of the 13th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup played last Sunday at TTHS Po Hang Gym.

UNO-R A is assured of the top spot at 6-0 while USLS closed out its elimination round 6-1 and will finish second. Both teams will advance to the semifinal round.
