Coseteng: Mark Joseph a liar

FORMER Senator Nikki Coseteng on Sunday called Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (PASA) president Mark Joseph a liar during a press conference held at the Panaad Park and Stadium Swimming Pool in Bacolod City. 

Coseteng, who was the guest of honor during the 2011 Governor’s Cup National Swimming Competition, disputed the PASA head’s statement that the National Sports Association (NSA) for swimming treated all Filipinos everywhere in the world equally.  

Negros Occidental still unbeaten in TKP Class A caging

NEGROS Occidental remains unbeaten after five games in the Class A of the 11th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at the Po Hang gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School. 

Jomarie Bayhon scored 21 points to lead the Province of Negros Occidental past the University of St. La Salle (USLS) in overtime, 94-86.

SEED No. 3 FIDE Master (FM) Sander Severino of Silay City had an impressive performance at the start of the ongoing 9-rounds Bombi Aznar Memorial Open Chess Tournament at the Activity Center, Elizabeth Mall (Emall) in Cebu City.    Severino tied with Johnnel Balquin on the top spot with 5.5 points after a draw on the 6th round.  

Meanwhile, lone Bacolod City entry Eden Tumbos struggled after the 5th round with 3 points following a strong start with 2 points in 2 rounds.

Talisay teams win Men’s Open, U-14 titles

THE Talisay Minulu-an Football Club (TMFC) emerged as champions in the Men’s Open and Under-14 Girls division in the recently-concluded Mayor Doc Eric 7-A-Side Charter Day Football Festival held February 12-13 at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) and Talisay City football pitches, respectively.

Host-TMFC Team-A won over TMFC Team-A Team-B, 1-0 to bag the men’s open division as the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Men’s Varsity-A settled for second runner-up.

ESD/ASSFBI keeps lead in Trio bowlfest

ESD Hurricane/ASSFBI vaulted with 1,053 pinfalls to keep its grasp of the No.1 post in the premiere division of the Top’s Invitational Open Trio Bowling Tournament at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.

Averaging 1,032 pinfalls per round, the ESD Hurricane stayed top spot of the division after six-round garnering a total of 6,196 pinfalls followed by the Easyweld/NPBC with 6,039. Occupying the third and fourth positions are Amor Silverado of Cecil Silverio and the Silverado I with 6,021 and 6,009, respectively.

Severino, Ting join Cebu chess tourney

FIDE Master (FM) Sander Severino and Shell Active Chess Champion Marvin Ting are set to see action in the two Cebu chess tournaments, the 1st Bombi Aznar Memorial Open Chess Tournament which scheduled February 19-21 and the Cebu City Charter Day Open Chess Tournament on February 26-28, 2011.

These tournaments are all scheduled to be played at the Elizabeth Mall in Cebu City.

JK-Kuppa remains undefeated in TKP Class B

JOHANN Kendrick (JK)-Kuppa is still on the top of the team standing after a 19-point victory over Simis Pastries, 89-70 in the Class B action of the 11th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod tay Tung High School.

JK-Kuppa, now with 3-0 win-loss card, remained the only unbeaten team in the tourney as the Simis and Phoenix Lubricants are tied with 2-1 while Nhojs Sportswear has a single win against 2 losses.

Villanueva defends title on Feb. 26

THE current Philippine flyweight champion Arthur 'El Matador' Villanueva of Top Prime Stable is set to put his champion belt at stake against Baguio City's Samuel Apuya in a 12-round clash on February 26, 2011 at 3pm at the Casino Filipino Hotel, Bacolod.

FRESH from winning the Bayawan City Beach Volleyball tournament, the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Lady Stingers will see action at the upcoming 8th Paraw Regatta National Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament.

The event will happen on February 19 to 20 at the Joe III Garden in Arevalo District, Iloilo City. It is part of the special events for the 39th Paraw Regatta Festival, which kicked off Sunday.

National Prisaa reset amid calls for boycott

THIS year's 8th National Private Schools Athletics Association (Prisaa) games earlier scheduled February 20 to 26 in Manila was reset to April 10 to 16 in Zamboanga City, following clamors of reorganization in the association's leadership.

After the recent meeting of Western Visayas Prisaa member schools in Iloilo City, the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City and the University of San Agustin in Iloilo had already confirmed that they will boycott the games.
