Mayor Eric M. Saratan, M.D., received the award from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during the 34th National Nutrition awarding ceremony last October 15, 2009 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City. The City received a plaque and a cash prize of P250,000.
The award is given to Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) awardees that have consistently shown outstanding efforts in nutrition improvement as monitored by a regional nutrition evaluation team from 2003-2005 and by a national evaluation team from 2006-2008.
The awarding ceremony was also attended by councilors Daniel Tribaco and Felix Hiballes, chair of the City Council committee on finance, budget and appropriation with Talisay City Nutrition Council and Barangay Nutrition Scholars of the 27 barangays.
Delivery of nutrition and related services to more people, a sustained increase in funding for basic services and participative implementation and management of the local nutrition program in the city made winning the National Honor Award a sure hit for Talisay.
