Village chief aspirants preparing

ONLY a month and thirteen days after the national and local poll, many are already preparing and hopeful to earn a spot in their respective barangays come October elections.

In Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, eight individuals are expected to vie for the position of a Barangay Captain.

Among those seeking for the post are political king maker Rene De Asis; Caesar Beloria; lawyer Alex Espino; former Barangay Captain Bernie Samonte; Boy Palo, a former Executive Assistant of Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia; Philip Montelibano, a defeated candidate for councilor in the recent election and a son of former governor and mayor Alfredo Montelibano, Jr.; incumbent Barangay Captain Dreybe Las Pinas, and re-elected Councilor Homer Bais.

However, Bais vehemently denied it and classified it as plain rumor.

"I will be graduating for the next three years and after that, I will rest from politics," Bais said.

De Asis, on the other hand, said he is really inclined to run for the said post.

"But we need to make sure that there is indeed a barangay election because there are current efforts to stop the holding of the poll," he added.

He also stressed that he will make Barangay Villamonte like Makati.

"I was thinking of what will be my personal contribution to the community?" the 72-year old De Asis said.
