THE power problem that is hurting businessmen in the Visayas will be taken up during the three-day 19th Visayas Area Business Conference that started Thursday at the City Sports Club Cebu in Cebu City.

The conference, with the theme "Public-Private Partnership Towards Sustainable Development," gathers about 250 businessmen from 17 Chambers in the Visayas, and about 150 from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), government, academe, and private sector.

The conference provides the local private sector a venue to share and discuss related information and insights as well as address pressing concerns that affect the economy, in general.

Mr. Frank Carbon of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) who will be attending the conference along with its President Roberto Montelibano and Jose Maria Zayco, said the conference is very important as one of the main topics in the plenary sessions is "Sustainable Power for the Visayas." He said they will bring up to the plenary the power concerns of Cental Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco), particularly in Bacolod.

In the said plenary, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) President Roque Corpus will talk about the "Power Situation in the Visayas."

Energy Undersecretary Mario Marasigan will discuss "Renewable Energy and The Green Fund," while Representative Mark Cojuangco (fifth district, Pangasinan) will talk about Nuclear Energy on the topic "Exploring the Alternatives for Sustainable Energy."

Some governors of Regions VI, VII and VII will talk about the Best Practices in Power and Energy Management.

On the last day of the conference, the Visayas chambers are expected to adopt the resolutions presented at the plenary. These resolutions will then be presented to the Philippine Business Conference and Exposition (PBCE) to be hosted by the PCCI in Manila this year.

The resolutions in the PBCE will then be presented to President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III. The PCCI hopes that these resolutions will be included in the executive-legislative agenda of the president.
