THE Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet will reels off Sunday at the Aklan Calangcang Sports Complex in Makato in Kalibo Aklan.

Around 3,000 athletes are expected to flock as the event opens March 14 to 19, after its postponement from its regular schedule of February 21 to 26 due to the national achievement test for secondary and elementary students.

Meanwhile, the venue sports complex was built not only for the regional athletic meet but also for future sports competition in the province.

The Aklan Calangcang Sports Complex will boast Olympic size swimming pool and the rubberized track and field oval.

Repair of the living quarters, water connections and toilets was already done for the comfort of participating athletes of Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Capiz, Antique, Guimaras and host Aklan.

Aklan is hosting the regional sports competition after 15 years.

The Provincial Government of Aklan has allocated an initial P80-million fund from a government bank to finance the construction of sports complex in the sprawling 6.5-hectares owned by the Aklan State University (ASU).
