NEGROS Occidental Governor Isidro Zayco bagged the National Sandugo Award for Local Chief Executives for year 2008.
The award is given to local chief executives in the country in recognition of their active involvement and personal commitment to attain an adequate and safe blood supply.
Zayco will receive the award together with other awardees from Negros Occidental on July 29 in Manila.

In Negros Occidental alone, the awardees increased by 44 percent from 70 for year 2007 to 126 for 2008 with blood collection of 27,261 units of blood.
Other awardees are Kabankalan Mayor Pedro Zayco (eight consecutive years), Himamaylan City Mayor Carminia Bascon (five consecutive years), Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., (four consecutive years), Talisay City Mayor Eric Saratan (four consecutive years), Escalante City Mayor Melecio Yap Jr. (two consecutive years); Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia (two consecutive years), La Carlota City Mayor Demie John Honrado (first time awardee) and Sipalay City Mayor Soledad Montilla (first time awardee).
In the municipal level, first time awardees are Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol, Cauayan Mayor John Rey Tabujara, Ilog Mayor Joyce Alvarez, Don Salvador Benedicto Mayor Lawrence Marxlen Dela Cruz and Candoni Mayor Cicero Borromeo.
In the barangay level, about 112 barangay captains will also receive their respective awards.
First time and second time awardees will receive their plaques of recognition on July 9 in Cebu City.
