THE Commissioners of the Baguio Centennial Commission call the people of Baguio to fight for the protection of the Botanical-Centennial Park.

This was after the agency found out that the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) issued a certificate of ancestral land title to the heirs of Lauro Carantes. The land title included a portion of the Botanical-Centennial Park, which falls within the contested Forbes Park reservation.

"Terrible" was how Commissioner Joseph Alabanza described the awarding of a portion of Forbes Park, which is a protected forest and watershed reservation.

Recently, the City Legal Office installed signs at the Forbes reservation, which state that the area is a protected forest and watershed.

The CLO also earlier asked the Office of the Solicitor General to help the City Government reclaim the property.

The City Legal Office also filed an administrative complaint against NCIP Commissioner Eugenio Insgine and six others who approved Carantes' application for ancestral land title.

A petition for injunction has also been filed to stop the Register of Deeds from registering the ancestral land title.

An appeal was also filed before the Land Registration Authority for the agency to consider the city government's adverse claim over Forbes.

A six-member task force was also created to look into lands issues like expanded titles, awarding of properties in government reservations and awarding of ancestral land titles over forest and watershed reservations.
