Air Force rules regional arnis tilt

STICK fighters from the Philippine Air Force bested seven other clubs to rule the 2010 Regional Baguio Day Arnis Tournament at the UC gym Sunday evening.
The arnisadores from the air force amassed 23 gold medals including five silvers and two bronzes to cart away the over-all plum in the one day event joined by more than 150 stick fighters from Baguio City and outside the Cordillera region.

The air force squad took gold medals in the 60 to 65 kg, 51 to 55 kg, below 51 kg, 56 to 61 kg, 52 to 56 kg, and the 60 to 65 kg events, all in the men’s division while their female counterparts also won golds in the 56 to 61 kg, 61 to 66kg, 52 to 56 kg, 48 to 52 kg, 44 to 48 kg, and 40 to 44 kg.
The boys’ division of the Philippine Air Force squads also brought home gold medals in the 47 to 51 kg and the 13to 14 years old age group competition while the girls brought home the gold medals in the 46 to 50 kg, 44 to 46 kg and the 7 to 8 years old age group category.
University of the Cordilleras, meanwhile, salvaged three gold medals, eight silver and six bronze medals to land second in the over-all standings with gold performances in the 61 to 66 and 40 kilograms in the women’s division and another in the 78 kg men’s division.
Sphinx Elite, on the other hand, bagged three gold medals in the 65 to 71 kg, 60 to 65 kg and 55 to 60 kg, all in the men’s division and three silver finishes to land third; while Sphinx Lions Club finished fourth with two gold medals in the 51 to 55 kg and 47 to 51 kg, boys’ division.
AMA Computer College finished fifth with its one gold in the 65 kg men including five silver and three bronze medals while San Vicente Annex had four silvers for a decent sixth place finish while Arnis De Mano had one silver and one bronze in the tournament. (Roderick Osis)
