IMPROVEMENTS in the Loakan airport terminal are being implemented starting this week by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines-Baguio.

Baguio airport manager Mary Sulyn Sagorsor said the repairs in the terminal are part of measures to welcome the new airline Sky Pasada that will start servicing flights in Baguio this month.

Late last month, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo already inaugurated the North Luzon Aeronautical Quadrangle in Binalonan, Pangasinan to promote trade, agriculture and tourism in the northern part of the country including Baguio.

Sagorsor said Binalonan Vice Mayor Ramon Guico III already applied for a mayor’s permit and other requisites needed by their company to conduct business here.

An increase in general aviation or private plane and chopper landings has been seen in the records of the airport since January this year compared to last year. Sagorsor said this is due to the good weather and good visibility ideal for landing of planes in the airport.

Sky Pasada owner Ramon Guico III said they are doing their best to catch up with the bulk of passengers who would want to come to Baguio this Holy week and summer season.

In their proposed flight schedule to Baguio, the airline will be offering flights from Baguio to Tuguegarao, Baler or Caticlan every Monday, Baguio to
Caticlan via Manila every Tuesday, Baguio to Tuguegarao every Wednesday, Baguio Caticlan via Manila every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

With these offerings, Guico said they are targeting groups of foreign and domestic tourists who would want to avail of their group packages.

“The airline will be servicing a UVP-LET turbo propeller airplane, which has a carrying capacity of 19 passengers and three crew members. The airline will also have providing cargo services for efficient transport of goods like vegetables and equipment needed by the people of Baguio,” Guico said.

The flight to Baguio from Manila will be only 50 minutes to 1 hour as compared to the five to six hours of domestic land travel.
