All systems go for centennial shootfest

ELEVEN major awards, seven stages, 250 practical shooters.

These will be the key ingredients of the Baguio Centennial Invitational Shootfest/Peter Rey A. Bautista Cup which fires off at the Philippine Military Academy shooting range Saturday.

Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro will do the ceremonial shoot followed by a range officers’ match and onsite registration, including a range officers’ briefing.

The event coincides with the scheduled PMA Alumni Homecoming on November 7, where Teodoro is the guest of honor and speaker.

The shootfest will be a seven stage, Level 2 PPSA (Philippine Practical Shooting Association) Sanctioned Match. Categories include aggregate, junior, lady, senior, AFP/law enforcer, media/celebrity, cadet, super senior and range officers.

Registration will be entertained on site, during the first day of the event (November 6). The range officers’ briefing and match will also be held on the same day.

The ceremonial shoot is scheduled in the morning of November 7. Onsite registration will still be entertained in the morning before the match proper. The match schedules will be up to November 8 and the awarding is expected to be done at 5 p.m.

Organizers said the shooting competition aims to strengthen awareness, consciousness and interest in the sport for the public and private individual whom a number have found significance in the promotion of gun safety and responsible ownership.

Shootfest coordinator Joseph Zambrano of the Philippine Information Agency said shooters from all over the country will be participating, including members of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

"Members of media will have a special stage to enhance their skills in practical shooting and at the same time promote gun safety, responsible ownership and camaraderie," Zambrano added. (Roderick Osis)
