BEMEDALLED race car driver Carlos Anton guns for another title when the Philippine Hill Climb series opens Sunday, March 14, in La Union.

Anton, the 2009 overall champion in the Hill Climb series will make a comeback for his title retention bid in the series which pits the country’s top racers in the hill climb competition.

Close to 50 racers from all over the country are expected to suit up and vie for top honors in the event organized by the Hill Climb Club of the Philippines (HCCP), a group of long-time motorsports enthusiasts.

Anton will anchor Baguio’s hill climb racers’ cause starting March 14. The team includes Alfie Concepcion, Dennis Aoyong, Frankie Domingo, Gerby Sohu, Jason Dipasupil and Gary Loy. They are all expected to make decent finishes.

“We’re not expecting that we’re all going to land in the podium because there are top racers coming from Manila, Dagupan and La Union who have a hometown advantage but we’re expecting a good finish,” Anton said.

Anton will once again use his ever reliable Honda CRX “green monster” in partnership with Mark Young-Yokohama team.

The creation of the HCCP marked the formation of a body that oversees the organization and conduct of hillclimbing in the Philippines in accordance with the general prescriptions set forth by the AAP and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

Founding members of the Club include former Rally Co-Driver of the Year Blue Reyna, circuit racing and rally champion Edgen Dy-Liacco, veteran rally driver Albert Narciso, rallyist and off-roader Jojo Macaraeg, outdoorsman and adventurer Ernie Garcia, and motoring journalist Popong Andolong.
