KIANGAN, Ifugao – Athletic veterans Jonrey Opendo, Divina Kitongan and Cattlea Carrion will carry the torch for the Baguio squad in the athletics event for the 2010 edition of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa).
Opendo and Kitongan are expected to retain their individual titles in the 800-meter, 1500-meter and the 3000 steeple chase while Carrion, a sixth grader from Bonifacio Elementary School, also a middle distance runner will also provide experience for the Baguio squad.

“We are 100 percent prepared right now. We are expecting a good performance from Jonrey. Being a gold medalist last year is a good advantage for him and for the team,” secondary athletics coach Danilo Alimbuyao said.
The secondary team was culled from Baguio City National High School, Pines City National High School, University of Baguio, and Baguio Central University.
It will be a big challenge for the team, according to Alimbuyao as some of the former Caraa stalwarts have already left high school in pursuit of higher education but with an improved training program, Baguio athletes would still have an edge over their rivals.
The elementary squad, meanwhile, was culled from Bonifacio ES, Sto. Tomas ES, Fort Del Pilar, Pinsao and Easter College headed by Lourdes Colingan. (Raul Estioko)
