Baguio archery tilt fires off at BCNHS

DESPITE the weeklong rains, more than 100 archers coming from other parts of northern Luzon and Baguio City gather for three days of friendly competition organized by the Ipanayan Scouts Archery.

The three-day competition, which kicked off September 3 at the Baguio Archery Range, aims to gather the best archers from northern Luzon including Metro Manila for the improvement of the BCNHS Archery range.

"So far, for the first day, we have 33 who saw action in the qualification round from the different schools here in Baguio City and Manila who were all beginners after they were given a basic training," said event organizer John Hongitan.

Archers coming from Baguio City National High School, San Beda, Baguio Achievers Academy and Saint Louis University Laboratory High School already saw action in the first day, according to Hongitan.

Events to be disputed in the competition are the yeoman division, for boys and girls (12 meters), bowman for boys and girls (12 meters), club boys and girls (18 meters) cadet men and women (18 meters) juniors men and women (18 meters), seniors men and women (18 meters), and adult masters for men and women (18 meters).

Honigtan said the archers in the yeoman, bowman, cub and cadet, juniors and seniors, adult and master categories will be ranked according to their scores after the qualification round and will be seeded in the Olympic round accordingly.

Trophies and medals awaits the top three finishers in the Olympic and qualification rounds of the tournament, which also aim to hone the knowledge, physical and psychological skills of all participants in the three day activity also being organized by Gandiva.

Registration fee for the cadets, cubs, bowmen, yeoman, juniors and seniors division will be P250, while participants in the adult and masters categories will be charged P350. Registration fee for the compound bow will be charged P500.

Hongitan said the competition proper is set to start September 4 with contingents coming from La Union, Metro Manila and as far as Cavite are set to arrive Saturday to give Baguio based archers a run for their money. (Roderick Osis)
