He developed his passion for music when he joined singing contests during his high school and college days.

Benj had his first national break in the Sunday noontime show ASAP and was one of the finalists of the now defunct Philippine Idol.

He formed the band Seal of Benjamin after his stints in these shows. He performed with the band for four years and then he decided to go solo.

Benj said he decided to pursue his solo career because there’s a need for more solo artists who can perform rock-ballads. He added being a solo artist was another level for his musical career.

“This is another phase of my career, it is easier to promote if I am a solo artist,” he said.

Benj said he was challenged by negative remarks of people who judged him because of his Cordillera origin. He added that he is proud to be an Igorot and to represent the Cordillera in the national music scene.

“I think it is good to represent Cordillera, in this way, I will be able to correct the misconceptions of other people about us,” Benj said.

He encouraged local artists to continue pursuing their dreams and to never stop dreaming. He added they must choose songs appropriate for their voice.

“Be proud of who you are, keep a good image and keep auditioning,” Benj said.
Benj describes his music as a mix of rock and ballad. He added his music is very personal and people can relate to the stories of his songs.

The press briefing was held at the Baguio Palace Hotel through the partnership with the Baguio Kindasan Lion’s Club.

Kindasan Charter president Sonia Daoas said Baguio should support and promote local talents like Benj.

Benj studied at the University of Baguio High School, spent some of his college days at Saint Louis University and graduated at the University of the Cordilleras (Baguio Colleges Foundation).
