BCT wins game 1 in Chesaa basketball finals

BAGUIO College of Technology (BCT) inched their way to another title, clawing a hapless Data Center College, 87–64, to win game one of their best of three finals showdown in the 7th Cordillera Higher Education Sports Athletic Association men’s basketball.

The BCT Eagles slowly pulled away in the second period after the Data Center Spartans made it 27 all with 7:37 left in the first half on a 19–9 blast to end the quarter with a 46–36 advantage.

BCT improved its record to a clean nine wins with no loss dating back to the eliminations and the semifinals.

From then BCT never looked back as it staved off every rally by Data Center, with Spartans giving their last hurrah coming from a 46–41 deficit on a 10–0 run in the third period with 8:00 minutes left.

Dan Udoba led the Eagles with his 34 points, including 20 points in the first half while Richard Kiaki and Zaldy Rivera added 14 and 12 points each.

The Eagles can wrap up the series early this week as it hopes to reclaim the championship crown it lost last year where they failed to march into the finals paving the way for National University Baguio to claim the 2009 title.

Data Center, the league’s leading three-point shooting team was limited to only four triples courtesy of Eric Dulay’s three treys and Kerubin Gonzaga who had a lone triple in the fourth period.

Dulay eventually led Data Center with his 17 points while Gonzaga added 14 points. Valeriano Garcia also chipped in 13 points.

In the other game, Cordillera Career Development College Admirals nipped Easter College to win the winner take-all-battle for third.

Stephen Agustin led the onslaught for the Admirals who had 32 points including seven triples while Allen Tamanga chipped in 20 points. Kim Bengeg and Jeffrey Narcilla also came in to chip in 12 and 11 points respectively.

The Admirals used a solid rally in the second period after a narrow 25–21 advantage at the close of the opening quarter.

CCDC then limited Easter to only 10 points in the second period ending the first half with a 49–31 advantage then finally held on to the lead to secure the win after a thrilling do or die match against Data Center in the semis.
