Brookside stops Royale in F-Cup 21


BROOKSIDE stopped Royale Business Club in a come from behind win, 90-84, to open its campaign in bracket B.

This is on the ongoing 21st season of the Baguio Friendship Cup basketball invitational tournament at the Easter College gymnasium.

Brookside overcame a seven-point deficit in the pay-off period, 70-77 with 5:58 remaining as it fired a 9-1 blasts in less than two minutes to regain the lead for good, 79-78 with 4:08 left in the ball game.

Raymond Tufay topped Brookside with his 25 points including a clutch trey, which got them the lead in the fourth period.

Royale Business Club started hot in the ball game with newly acquired Bart Parrocha who opened the first period after firing eight points to lead the business club with a 18-29 advantage at the close of the first period.

Parrocha then led Royale in the second period with his 11-point output in the second period as he solely carried the team in his shoulder to close the first half with a 39-50 advantage.

Olowan-Brookside slowly trimmed down Royale's lead in the third period after a 10-2 run for a three point deficit, 49-52, but Royale slowly pulled a away anew to a 53- 58 edge 3:16 left in the third.

Tufay and Sherwin Galgala then teamed up for Olowan-Brookside to grab the lead for the first time in the ball game, 63-62, with 54 seconds remaining in the period then closed it with a 65-64 advantage.

Royale then reorganized to retake the lead at the early goings of the fourth period after a 13-5 blast with 5:58 left in the ball game, for a 70-77 advantage.

Tufay, Galgala, and Adolf Elinger then took the scoring cudgels, as they clamped on the Royale's offensive power, allowing the latter only seven points in the last four minutes of the ball game while Olowan's trio including Mike Wangan fired a combined 20 points in the last four minute frame.

Aside from Tufay who scored in double digits, the trio of Galgala and Elinger also chipped in 20 points apiece while Wangan came in with 16 points in the ball game.

Parrocha, who debuted as a Royale had a game high 27 points after scoring 19 points in the first half was allowed to only eight points in the second half.

Jo De Guzman, who is also debuting as a Royale, and a teammate of Parrocha in the Beneco basketball squad had 12 points while Ariane Reinoso and Pope Cortez chipped in 11 points each.

Earlier, Tea House also made its debut with a win against C.O.C. God Squad, 102-89 to join Olowan-Brookside in the winner's column of bracket B.
