Smart denies network disruption

SMART Communication Inc. has denied any interruption in its operations in Baguio and Benguet and other areas in North Luzon contrary to an early advisory of rival Globe telecom issued in February 27.
“The Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) company interconnection facilities serving Northern Luzon are operating normally. There has not been any reported interruption in its operations at any time,” said Smart External Affairs head Jose Rosete.
Rosete also said carriers BayanTel and Digitel are not experiencing any trouble using the same facility Globe is using.
“This indicates that the interconnection problems being experienced by [Globe] in Northern Luzon are caused by problems in its own network and transmission facilities,” he said.
In its February 27 public advisory, Globe Corporate Communications head Yoly Crisanto stated that “PLDT is experiencing multiple outages on local interconnection in several parts of Northern Luzon.”
The statement added, “As a result, our landline customers will not be able to make local calls to PLDT in the following areas: La Union, Baguio, Tarlac, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Nueva Ecija.”
She added Globe is currently coordinating with PLDT for the immediate restoration of these points of interconnection.
Rosete seconded this saying, “PLDT has already invited Globe representatives for a joint testing to address their problems.”
